This is a nice vintage children's book. The story opens in the living room of the four Masters bookshop on Ormond Quay in Dublin. On an autumn evening the book seller Eugene O'Clery, his wife Eilis, his school boy son Patrick, his nine-year-old daughter Bridgie, with her beloved cat Mog her ragdoll Migeen, together with the O'Clery's faithful old servant, the widow Flanagan, are seated at high tea. They are reading books propped against milk jugs or staring at the traffic by the liffey and at the people hunched against the cold East wind blowing in from Dublin Bay. Into this setting comes Shane Madden, a runaway often searching for his dashing but unreliable hero, uncle Tim. How Shane finds work in the bookshop in Dublin and succeeds in his quest is the theme of this charming and vivid story.
